Live Performance of Oklahoma Woman Quartet by Anjelica Lindsey Opens Winter Talk 2026
TULSA, Okla. — Oklahoma Woman Quartet, an original song cycle by Anjelica Lindsey (Cherokee Nation), will be performed live Sunday, Feb. 1, as the opening program of Winter Talk 2026, hosted by the Center for Indigenous Ministries (DOC). Lindsey will perform the vocal part herself alongside distinguished string players, including violinist Gina Costanza Davis, Assistant Concertmaster of the Tulsa Symphony.
The song cycle, historically significant as the first string quartet written by a Cherokee woman composer, explores modern feminine Indigenous memory and contemporary lived experience. The performance offers the opportunity to hear the work live with the composer and accomplished local musicians.
Winter Talk brings Indigenous and non-Indigenous participants together to learn, share meals, and discuss the ongoing impacts of the Doctrine of Discovery. The event is open to the public and centers Indigenous voices in examining the past, present, and future.
The opening gathering will be held Sunday, Feb. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Parish Church of St. Jerome, 205 W. King St., Tulsa. The church is an independent, inclusive sacramental community rooted in the Old Catholic tradition, led by Father Joshua Shawnee.
Additional Winter Talk programming, including speakers and small-group conversations, will take place Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 2–3, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Helmerich Center for American Research at the Gilcrease Museum.
